We have an abbreviated issue today on the eve of the North America Premodern Championship at LOBSTERCON! I still have yet to choose which tier 3/rogue deck I’ll win the tournament with but in the meantime, let’s take a look at the results of a survey I posed to the Premodern community about which decks you all thought would Top 8 the format’s likely largest event to date (207 players registered).
I provided 29 deck choices based on whichever decks had the most results on tcdecks. Anything other than those 29 were bucketed in a “None of the Above” option.
We had 76 respondents, but I had to remove two results because one didn’t follow the instructions and the other (*cough* Brian Kowal *cough*) voted for eight copies of The Rock in the Top 8. So let’s get into it!
Six decks had over half of respondents predicting at least one Top 8 appearance with Parfait/Tax-Rack showing up in nearly every survey reply. Elves and Goblins aren’t too far behind in the low-80s.
Eight other decks had 10% or more of respondents predicting at least one Top 8 appearance, with tier 3/rogue decks only showing up in 11% of survey responses:
In terms of which decks respondents thought would show up more than once in the Top 8, the six decks from earlier are back, with more than a third of respondents thinking Parfait/Tax-Rack decks will have more than one showing in the Top 8.
That’s it for now, be sure to follow my Twitter for Lobstercon updates tomorrow and be on the lookout for a recap newsletter later this month. Also, if you see me there, say hello! 👋🦞
